Breadnut also known as Brosimum Alicastrum, also called Maya nut or Ramon. 

Sometimes the least attractive and seemingly most undesirable fruits turn out to be a gem in a haystack such is the bread nut. This has become one of my favourite fruit to prepare and eat in the simplest way. It is quite a filling staple that can be used in a variety. As a side, to make juices, to accompany salads etc.

Dominica, Nature Isle

Map of dominicaSister Island, Dominica (The Nature Island) was ravaged by Hurricane Erika last Thursday. The aftermath was devastating. Infrastructural damage, agricultural devastation and loss of lives.  

This disaster had a personal effect on me. A country that I have visited, that I have spent time in .. A place that I have family ......

Planting Cucumbers

Cucumbers also known as cucumbis sativis are my favourite vegetables. I often eat these in a variety of ways, by itself as a snack, in salads, in smoothies and in my general cooking..... They are members of the melon and squash families.

One of the simplest and easiest ways to get all the healthy nutrition and lots of vegetables and fruits in your diet is by the consumption of smoothies. They are a great breakfast, lunch and dinner for those busy and on the go. 

There are varies to how you can make your smoothies aided by recipes found all over the internet for the novice, the experience add their own style to taste. Preparation can centre on like fruits, like colours or whatever combo works for you. My personal favourite is banana mixed (my own combo, just about any fruit and herbs) smoothies.

Bottle Gardening

On my last blog I briefly spoke on Plastic Bottle gardening. This is container gardening but using only plastic bottles. Note this type of not limited to plastic but includes breakable bottles . get your seedling and small sprouting, soil, scissors and water and let us begin.

There is no specific size or shape, Just use what is economically viable for you (we all have bottles lying around or stored somewhere). There are many variations to bottle garden e.g. hanging, singles, covered, uncovered. It's important to test each method out if your are an adventurer like me to see what works best for your situation.

Long Time Gone

It has been quite a while since I have been here. Much has changed including taking up a new job that is non agricultural. No worries my enthusiasm for all things agriculture has not changed nor have I been deterred.

As of late I have taken to Plastic Bottle Gardening. Small Space, no problem with this technique. I have stated with 1.5 litre bottle. My crop of choice, sweet peppers. Here is a link to get you started with a simple technique that works great with herbs.
